Are open source backup products a good data backup solution for smaller businesses?
I think that it really depends on the nature of the business. Open source backup products are oftentimes command-line-driven and lack the telephone technical support that is available for a commercial product. If a smaller organization has no dedicated IT department, then an open source backup may not be the best data backup solution. However, if such an organization has employees with above-average computer skills, then an open source backup can save the organization a substantial amount of money.
