Symantec Backup Exec is a small- to medium-sized business (SMB) data protection product.

Backup Exec supports virtual server backup and offers data deduplication. According to the product's manufacturer, Symantec Backup Exec makes copies of data from virtual storage and physical storage environments for disaster recovery and is versatile enough to restore an entire server or data at the file-level.

With Backup Exec 2012, Symantec unveiled a new user interface and changes in workflows from the previous edition of the software. Those changes include an option to use pre-designed workflows, based upon storage devices in use.
