QUESTION POSED ON: 13 July 2009
What's the best way to secure data if I'm using an online/cloud data backup provider?

>
Any good cloud/online backup provider will have the ability to encrypt the data before it leaves your facility, and the provider will also have the ability to store it encrypted. Furthermore, good online backup providers will either have the option of using a key that they assign or that you assign. The advantage of them providing the key is that you don't have to keep track of it, but if you provide the key, it gives you extra security So to make sure your data is secure, I suggest to use encryption with a self-provided key. Just make sure that you're storing it somewhere safe and accessible, as you'll need it to restore your data.
