EMC OEMs WysDM for backup reporting EMC Corp. has signed an OEM agreement with backup reporting startup WysDM Software Inc. EMC will sell WysDM's software under the brand EMC Backup Advisor as part of its Legato backup software portfolio. Backup Advisor provides reports and analysis on backup jobs and can alert users to problems and bottlenecks before they happen. Other companies in this market include: Bocada Inc., Crosswalk Inc., ServerGraph Inc. and Tek-Tools Inc.
Silverback ships iSCSI stack Silverback Systems announced it will sell a unified iSCSI hardware/software target stack to IP storage OEMs. The software will be integrated with Intel Corp.'s XScale products.
IVivity announces performance results Component maker iVivity announced that approximately 400,000 I/O per second and 20 Gbps (19.926 Gbps) of iSCSI traffic throughput was continuously and directly terminated through its iDiSX-2000-10 storage network processor ASIC with dual 10 Gbps iSCSI ports. All iSCSI traffic was terminated by the iVivity iDiSX-2000-10 ASIC without any external processors. The setup used the Force10 E300 switch router, 19 Intel Xeon-based servers, one AMD Opteron server (each with 1Gbps iSCSI) and 64K to 256K packets from Iometer. The 20 iSCSI Gbit initiators generating the traffic load to the iVivity iSCSI target ran at the maximum possible output.

Rich Castagna, Editorial DirectorComponent maker LSI Logic Corp. announced that it is providing OEM customers with samples of the LSI 3Gbps serial-attached SCSI (SAS) 28-port and 36-port expander integrated controllers. Key product features include: phy-based zoning for network security applications and initiator functionality, such as self-discovery and self-configuration. The products use an ARM processor for enclosure management and extended SAS functions. LSI Logic is also scheduling product demonstrations at customer locations.
JMR Electronics launches IP SAN system JMR Electronics announced that it is offering an IP SAN product designed in collaboration with Intel. Z-IPSAN, an IP SAN-in-a-box, has a capacity range from 750 GB to 8 terabytes per box. Pricing starts at $14,000.
Spare Backup signs OEM agreement Spare Backup Inc., announced an agreement with Global Marketing Partners that will allow distribution of its replication software products through Ingram Micro. Spare Backup is also being resold by CompUSA and Hewlett-Packard Co.
