Storage Clips: HDS enhances Windows support

Hitachi HiCommand storage suite to integrate better with Windows and TagmaStore; IBM to ship Adaptec SAS RAID server; EMC taps Avnet for Canadian expansion.


HDS soups up Windows support
Hitachi Data Systems Inc. (HDS) announced enhancements to its HiCommand heterogeneous storage management software. The upgrades provide integration with Microsoft Windows Server 2003, including improved support for Microsoft Volume Shadow-Copy Service bringing enhanced data protection to Exchange 2003 and the NT File System. The suite also provides improvements in measurement and analysis on the Hitachi TagmaStore Universal Storage array. HiCommand can now configure and report on logical partitions within the TagmaStore to keep track of resources.


IBM to ship Adaptec SAS RAID server
IBM's recently launched X3 architecture and eServer xSeries 366 server incorporates Adaptec's Zero Channel serial-attached SCSI (SAS) RAID controller to deliver data protection for Intel Xeon processor-based servers. IBM said that the X3 architecture and Intel-based xSeries server, the x366, is the industry's first available SAS-based server that also features RAID-6 data protection.


EMC hires Avnet for Canadian channel
Avnet Partner Solutions, a value-added distributor of enterprise servers, storage, software and services based in Mississauga, Ontario, announced the expansion of its distribution with EMC Corp. to extend the reach of both companies in Canada. Avnet will now market EMC's storage and management products throughout Canada via its Web-based demonstration tool, Demo Advantage.


Nexsan and Asigra team for multisite backup
Nexsan Technologies, announced that backup software company Asigra Inc., has been selected for the Nexsan Strategic Solutions (S2) Program. The partnership brings together Nexsan's InfiniSAN disk-based storage hardware and Asigra's Televaulting multisite backup and recovery software, which has utility service provisioning and agentless installation. This joint product is offered through Nexsan's channel of more than 1,000 resellers and Asigra's global channels, and provides scalable backup and recovery for multidepartmental and geographically dispersed enterprises, the companies said.


Atempo software certified with Overland
Atempo Inc. announced that its Time Navigator data protection software has been certified for use with the full line of REO disk-to-disk backup and recovery appliances from Overland Storage. The joint product addresses challenges including disaster recovery, compliance, security and rapid data growth, the companies said.


Sanrad intros IP SAN builder
iSCSI SAN vendor, Sanrad Inc., announced IP SAN Builder, a new Web-based tool to help storage managers build a topology of their IP SAN and budget the cost of attaching different classes of servers. It also provides cost comparisons to Fibre Channel SANs and DAS. The IP SAN Builder is aimed at midrange to large enterprise users.


TimeSpring and EBS enhance continuous backup
TimeSpring Software Corp. and Eastern Business Software Inc. (EBS) announced an agreement under which EBS will offer TimeSpring's TimeData software to make SQL Server databases more available through continuous data protection. With the TimeData software, EBS customers can recover from data loss, corruption or security breaches within minutes. In addition, customers can also analyze, report or test data anytime without impacting operations, the companies said.
