FalconStor Software Inc. announced that its virtual tape library (VTL) software has completed interoperability testing with Veritas NetBackup software. The two products will work on Sun Solaris, HP-UX or Windows platforms.
Visual effects studio uses IBM LTO
IBM announced its TotalStorage Linear Tape-Open (LTO) drive has been shipped to Sony Pictures Imageworks, a digital animation and visual effects company. The company purchased the drive, which marks the 500,000th shipment of LTO by IBM, to back up its digital animation productions.

Tandberg Data launches new low-end NAS appliance
Tandberg Data Corp. has announced the release of its InteliStor appliance, which integrates Tandberg Data's Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003-based InteliNAS device, StorageLoader LTO-2 or 420LTO, and Symantec Backup Exec software. InteliStor joins InteliNAS as the second in a line of small and midsized business-targeted network backup products from Tandberg. The InteliStor comes in three disk capacities in 1U form factors -- 1.6 TB, 1.0 TB and 480 GB.
SNIA demonstrates products based on new standard
The Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) is demonstrating the advanced features for standards-based data protection and management services based on the new version of the Storage Management Initiative-Specification (SMI-S), version 1.1 at Storage Networking World Europe. The new SMI-S v1.1 functionality being featured within the Solutions@Work Demonstration includes support for the SNIA Copy Services profile and support for storage tape libraries.
