Idealstor releases new software for VMware backup
Idealstor, a manufacturer of removable disk-to-disk backup products, announced the release of an enterprise backup product for VMware virtual servers this week. iBac Virtual Infrastructure Proxy (iBac VIP) is designed to be an easy-to-use and affordable way to back up data in a VMware virtual server environment.
iBac VIP was written with VMware backup in mind and is designed specifically for VMware virtual machines running in an ESX server environment. VIP is licensed per ESX server regardless of the number of virtual machines or processors running on the ESX server. This enables companies to quickly add new virtual machines without having to worry about purchasing additional backup agents for each virtual server.

ProStor Systems recognizes Tandberg Data for shipping 100,000 removable disk docks
ProStor Systems, a developer of removable disk storage products, announced that Tandberg Data, one of its licensee partners, has shipped more than 100,000 RDX docks in fewer than two years. Tandberg Data achieved this by supplying RDX technology to brand-name PC server OEMs, and through its own branded channel.
The RDX technology aims to reduce an average data backup window from hours to minutes and allows users to back up 100 GB of data in less than an hour. RDX removable disk systems include a dock and cartridge that contains a mobile 2.5-inch hard disk drive in a shock-proof design.
Zmanda partners with Sun to launch OpenSolaris Backup
Zmanda, an open-source backup and recovery software provider, announced this week that both Amanda Enterprise and Zmanda Recovery Manager (ZRM) for MySQL are fully supported and certified on the OpenSolaris 2008.11 platform, which was announced by Sun Microsystems, and will be available in OpenSolaris repositories.
Amanda Enterprise is an enterprise backup product that is based on the open-source data backup and recovery software Amanda. Amanda Enterprise protects OpenSolaris, Solaris, Linux, Windows and Mac OS X environments using a single management console.
