Isilon announces Back-up Accelerator and certification with CommVault
Isilon Systems announced the release of its Back-up Accelerator, which aims to simplify file-based data. Combining Isilon's new One FS 5.5 operating system software with 4 GBps Fibre Channel networking, dual quad core Intel processors, and 8 GB RAM, the Back-up Accelerator delivers up to 480 MBps of performance across four concurrent streams. The Back-up Accelerator can be added to any Isilon cluster.
Isilon also announced that its Isilon IQ product platform and new Back-up Accelerator have completed certification with CommVault, providing businesses full interoperability with CommVault Simpana data protection software, which features end-to-end data deduplication. Isilon's certification with CommVault was validated by a series of test cases and test plans to demonstrate complete compatibility between Isilon IQ scale-out NAS, its Back-up Accelerator, and CommVault Simpana data management software.

Barracuda Networks Inc. announced a new pricing structure for its Barracuda Backup Service, which now features five times the amount of storage for the same entry-level price. The Barracuda Backup Service offsite storage plans are now available to customers for $50 per month for every 100 GB of offsite backup storage with no overage fees, no agent fees and no per-server fees. Barracuda Networks will continue to provide software agents, including agents for Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SQL Server and Windows system state at no additional cost to customers.
Quest Software unveils SmartDiff for SQL Server backup
Quest Software Inc. unveiled SmartDiff, its patent-pending technology built into the latest version of its backup and recovery solution, LiteSpeed for SQL Server. With SmartDiff, LiteSpeed for SQL Server's compression ratio jumps from 20:1 up to 40:1, providing SQL backup compression that is comparable to storing more than a terabyte of data on a single USB thumb drive. SmartDiff aims to reduce backup times and creates a significantly smaller storage footprint.
Spectra Logic partners with Symantec
Spectra Logic has entered into an OEM agreement with Symantec Corp. Spectra Logic now offers Symantec's data protection software as an option to its tape- and disk-based backup and archive products.
Spectra Logic is now offering Symantec NetBackup and Backup Exec that can be purchased and bundled direct from Spectra Logic when integrated with any of Spectra's line of tape or disk storage products including Spectra's T950, T680, T380, T200, T120, T50e, nTier700 and nTier500.
