Barracuda Networks acquires BitLeap

Barracuda Networks Inc. has acquired BitLeap, a provider of local and offsite data backup and disaster recovery (DR) solutions. Barracuda will now offer Barracuda Backup, a data backup and DR product, to customers of all sizes and business types.

Barracuda Backup is an integrated local and offsite data backup solution that combines the Barracuda Backup Server for restoration on the local network with the Barracuda Backup Service, a secure cloud-based backup service to two geographically dispersed data centers for redundancy.

New York Jets choose AmeriVault for remote online backup

The New York Jets professional football franchise has chosen AmeriVault for remote online data backup and data protection. AmeriVault's online data backup service will free up the IT department's time and allow them to focus on other projects such as the move to a new practice facility.

AmeriVault's Storage as a Service (SaaS) model requires no investment in hardware, software or maintenance. For backup, customers only pay for compressed, deduplicated data that is protected in AmeriVault's secure data centers.

CoreXchange partners with i365 for backup services

CoreXchange, a provider of advanced Internet connectivity, co-location solutions and business continuity services, will be providing backup and data recovery services in partnership with i365 Inc. (a Seagate company).

i365 EVault SaaS is an automated online backup and recovery service that backs up an entire organization's business-critical data to one of i365's seven secure Tier III and IV SAS 70 Type II North American data centers. The offsite encrypted data is available online for recovery. EVault SaaS backup works in organization's existing infrastructure; no additional hardware is required.

Harvard Law School loses backup tape

Harvard Law School alerted thousands of clients from a legal services clinic that a backup tape containing their social security numbers, addresses and financial information was lost last month. A technician lost the tape on an MBTA subway while traveling from Harvard's services center in Jamaica Plain, Mass., to the law school. The personal information went back 10 years, and belonged to approximately 21,000 people who visited the school's legal services center.
