EMC and NetApp have been battling over Data Domain, a huge step for either company in developing their deduplication technology. This week, EMC offered $1.8 million to Data Domain, an offer significantly higher than NetApp's original offer of $1.5 million. However, on Wednesday, June 3, NetApp raised the bid, offering Data Domain $1.9 million. This is no minor business deal, and the storage world is keeping a close eye on which company will win the bid to buy Data Domain.
Beth Pariseau, Senior News Writer of the Storage Media Group, has been researching and writing about the developments in this story since last week. She talks about the advantages of having Data Domain in a company, and what this deal could mean for the future.
W. Curtis Preston is the Executive Editor at TechTarget, webmaster at BackupCentral.com, and the author of the Mr. Backup blog. He talks about the battle between EMC and NetApp, and how right now, either company could win this bidding war.
