EMC announces new mainframe disk library
EMC Corp. announced it has doubled the capacity and throughput of its EMC Disk Library for Mainframe (EMC DLm) systems. The latest version provides IBM zSeries mainframe environments with a disk-based backup. EMC made the announcement at the SHARE mainframe user conference.
The new EMC DLm systems leverage new virtual tape engines and EMC Celerra unified storage systems. Users can now receive support of up to six virtual tape engines with the ability to scale up to 1.2 PB of usable capacity (approximately 3 PB of tape information) in only 13 cabinets - twice the usable capacity of previous systems. In addition, the new system offers double throughput up to 1.2 GB per second. The EMC DLm family is available immediately.
Certeon announces Certeon's aCelera Sync data backup and replication acceleration software
Certeon announced its aCelera Sync data backup and replication acceleration software to its aCelera product family. aCelera Sync aims to provide more efficient disaster recovery over the wide area network (WAN). The company claims it reduces data backup and replication times by up to 97%.
Proxure announces KeepVault 3.15
Proxure Inc., a developer of data backup and synchronization technologies for consumer and SMBs, announced the availability of Version 3.15 of its KeepVault data backup product for Microsoft Windows 7, Windows Vista 64-bit and 32-bit versions, and Windows XP. There is also a version of KeepVault specifically for Windows Home Server users. The KeepVault software can be installed on an unlimited number of PCs in the home/office network and all users can back up all their important files to the same online storage account. KeepVault Version 3.15 is available now, pricing starts at $4.00/month for 40 GB of storage.
American Megatrends launches continuous data protection software for Windows
American Megatrends (AMI) announced a new release of its SafeTrends continuous data protection (CDP) software for Windows, and added new features aimed at offering better data backup and data protection.
SafeTrends safeguards the contents of Windows desktop PCs by monitoring, filtering and protecting data with local and remote backup to USB drives, network shares or network-attached storage (NAS) over a local or home network, and now features support for data backup and protection to cloud storage services.
SpiderOak offers new educational discount on backup
SpiderOak announced it is offering a discount of 50% on its online data backup and recovery service. The cost is $5/month and the discount if or all students, faculty and school employees with a valid .edu email address.
Unitrends announces Recovery-710
Unitrends released its new Unitrends Recovery-710, designed specifically for SMBs with a mix of hardware, operating systems, applications, storage and virtualization. The Recovery-710 features quad-core processors, 8 GB of RAM and an advanced RAID architecture. It has 3 TB of raw disk capacity into a 1U rack-mount appliance for protection of as much as 6 TB to 12 TB of user data with standard in-line compression. It also offers AES 256-bit encryption, VMware vSphere and Hyper-V support and optional eSATA-- and USB-based archiving. Recovery-710 is available now with pricing starting at $9,995.
