Rackspace unveils cloud-based file storage and server backup apps

Rackspace Hosting announced a new set of products that helps businesses move their IT applications into the cloud. The new offerings are Cloud Drive, Server Backup and Hosted Microsoft SharePoint (due to be released in December 2009).

Cloud Drive is an online cloud-based data backup system that lets people within the organization store, share and back up files. Also, files and data can be accessed and managed from either inside or outside of the office without extra hardware. Users can back up their data to RackSpace Cloud, which is kept secure with an encryption key. Cloud Drive can also synchronize desktop folders with its cloud-based network drive.

Server Backup is a cloud-based online server backup application. This application is designed to protect server data, and users can access files and data remotely with an encryption key.

Tandberg Data announces DAT 320 tape drives

Tandberg Data announced the availability of its DAT 320 tape drives and media products. The DAT 320 tape drives can deliver backup speeds up to 86 GB per hour, is read and write compatible with DAT 160 tape media and supports WORM (Write Once, Read Many) media cartridges and encryption. The DAT 320 tape drives are available now starting at an estimated price of $899.

Sublime Solution adds new features to Sublime Online Vault

Sublime Solution Inc. announced new features to their Sublime Online Backup Vault. Users can now choose the data they want to be backed up to a local resource, giving them more control over backup costs. Also, Sublime Online Backup Vault now offers a new Backup Explorer interface, allowing users to restore files from a local server or data center.

FalconStor customers achieve continuous data availability

FalconStor Software Inc. announced that users using FalconStor Continuous Data Protector (CDP) are experiencing increased data availability. The FalconStor CDP replaces tape-based backups with a disk-based process that allows storage managers to set their recovery time objectives (RTOs) and recovery point objectives (RPOs) to the service-level agreement (SLA) requirements for each server. This reduces restore times and minimizes the use of tape, making disaster recovery (DR) and WAN optimization easier.

Proxure expands data protection -- offers Pro & Business Online Backup Service

Proxure Inc. announced an upgraded version of its KeepVault online backup service, the KeepVault Pro & Business. KeepVault Pro & Business automatically backs up files to local and off-site devices, and provides data backup for an unlimited number of computers and servers at a fixed price. Other upgrades include faster online backup and access to files and data using the Web from any computer or mobile device and shared online storage.

KeepVault Pro & Business is compatible with Windows 7, Vista, Windows Home Server and Windows 2003/2008. It's available now, and plans start at $82 for 20GB of online storage -- other accounts can get as large as several terabytes worth of data.

Storagepipe Solutions upgrades their SharePoint Online Backup product

Storagepipe Solutions will release the latest update to their SharePoint Online Backup product on November 23, 2009. The new release offers more power and control to SharePoint administrators who want to back up their data to the cloud. Other features of the product include a backup plan builder, a tree view of the user's entire SharePoint environment, a dashboard that shows the user an overview of their entire system, ability to restore at the platform and item level and a restore timeline that shows all recovery points.
