Have the vStorage APIs leveled the playing field for VMware backup?
No, not really. Although most of the virtualization-aware backup products do support hypervisor backups, each product generally offers its own unique feature set. In my opinion there will probably never be a time when the playing field is truly leveled, because each backup vendor will continue to try to differentiate their products from the competition by adding unique features.
