The backup and DR software category covers backup and recovery software, cloud backup and recovery services, disaster recovery, snapshot and replication, electronic vaulting and archivers. Finalists are listed in alphabetical order.

Asigra Inc. Cloud Backup V12

Asigra's Cloud Backup aims to back up all of an enterprise's data in one software platform -- from the data center to remote sites and endpoint devices. Version 12 offers a number of new features, including "cloud-to-cloud" application backup, enhanced storage snapshot functionality, and the ability to failover to a backup copy of a virtual machine (VM) while recovering primary site data.

Code 42 Software Inc. CrashPlan PROe V3

The latest version of CrashPlan PROe, an endpoint backup software product, offers backup to public or private cloud storage; load balancing functionality to optimize use of available storage and bandwidth; a new administrator dashboard; new mobile apps for Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone platforms; and the ability to back up different groups of files and folders on different schedules and to different destinations.

CommVault Simpana Version 9 Service Pack 8

CommVault's Simpana enterprise backup software platform offers automated, policy-driven data protection, recovery, replication, archiving and reporting. Simpana Version 9 SP8 delivers new features such as OnePass, which combines backup, archive and reporting into a single operation; and ContentStore, a deduped backup and archive repository of data stored across disk, tape or cloud.

Dell Inc. Quest vRanger 6.0

Dell's Quest vRanger 6.0 adds backup of physical Windows servers in addition to its support of virtual servers. The new version offers a direct-to-target architecture designed to improve backup performance, and job parallelism for physical and virtual backups. Its Active Block Mapping technology, which ensures only active data blocks are copied to storage, now works for physical backups.

Digitiliti Inc. DigiLibe Version 3.5

DigiLibe's cloud software-as-a-service (SaaS) product offers file backup, archiving, sharing and access. Version 3.5 offers automated content ingestion on file save/close or email send/receive, secure cache for fast recovery, full-text and metadata indexing for search and e-discovery, GARP-compliant archiving and file sharing with granular access controls.

Druva Inc. inSync 5.1

Druva inSync 5.1 is a SaaS product designed for laptop and smartphone backup. The latest version offers on-device data encryption, remote wipe and geo-tracking, enterprise-grade file sharing, secure sharing from any mobile application on iOS or Android, and new data analytics features. The product offers deduplication across both backup and file-sharing data.

EVault Inc. EVault 7

EVault's cloud backup service lets users store backup data in a private cloud, partner cloud or EVault cloud. Enhancements in EVault 7 include replication, an "express recovery" virtual appliance, a backup and recovery management dashboard built on a social management platform, an agent for vSphere, and plug-ins for Microsoft Exchange and SQL Server.

FalconStor Software Inc. RecoverTrac 2.5

RecoverTrac DR automation is a standard feature of FalconStor's Continuous Data Protector and Network Storage Server offerings. Version 2.5 offers performance improvements and the ability to recover multiple machines simultaneously, integration with VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V, support for failover and failback between any combination of physical and virtual servers and between dissimilar hardware, automated DR testing, and on-demand VM allocation.

FileTek Inc. StorHouse Version 5.6 with RFS 5.0

FileTek's StorHouse (STH) abstracts hardware to create a storage pool across disk and tape for data protection for big data applications. Version 5.6 offers native file-format backup, version control, point-in-time-recovery, high-availability replication and remote DR. The latest version also offers the ability to use tape as network-attached storage and features new data integrity capabilities.

Quantum Corp. DXi V1000

Quantum's DXi V1000 virtual appliance offers target deduplication for backup and disaster recovery. Quantum says the product can back up 30 TB of data in 2.5 hours, replicate to any other DXi appliance or cloud protection service, and deduplicate virtual and physical servers. The product also stores a local copy of data for faster restores with a backup copy in the cloud.

Veeam Software Inc. Veeam Backup & Replication 6.5

Veeam Backup & Replication, backup software for virtual servers, now offers the ability to search Exchange backups to retrieve individual Exchange items; a dynamic distributed architecture designed to improve remote site backup performance; faster replication performance; Web-based file restore direct to the original VM; and a backup utility that creates a compressed, deduped version of a VM for archiving or portability.

Zerto Virtual Replication 2.0

Zerto Virtual Replication can replicate data from a VMware vSphere environment to a VMware vCloud environment and vice versa. Version 2.0 is hardware agnostic and offers multisite replication. Also included is off-site cloning and backup with support for VM boot order and automatic updates of VMware vApp changes, full integration with VMware vCloud Director, as well as full awareness of VMware vMotion, DRS and HA.
