Storage Clips: CA brushes up backup software
CA has released Brightstor version r11.5, which includes enhanced support for more applications and a lower capacity minimum for entry-level systems.
Computer Associates International Inc. (CA) announced enhancements to its storage management software product line with BrightStor version r11.5. The new version brings more of CA's software under one umbrella, including tape management and virtual tape management software.
In addition, BrightStor r11.5 adds support for 64-bit platforms and midrange disk arrays from Sun, EMC and Hewlett-Packard, as well as Sybase database backup software. It also provides enhanced protection of Lotus Notes and SAP on Linux, and special features for Microsoft SharePoint.

BrightStor Storage Command Center, a new component of BrightStor r11.5, will be available later this fall. The software translates raw technical information into a "dashboard" for monitoring.
New McDATA Sphereon switches available
McDATA Corp. announced the general availability of its Sphereon 4400 and Sphereon 4700 4Gbps Fibre Channel switches. The switches are available through McDATA, OEM partners EMC and IBM and McDATA resellers and distributors this month. The switches will be available through Hitachi in fiscal third quarter.
Xyratex hits snag in acquisition of nStor
Xyratex Ltd.'s cash tender offer for all of the outstanding shares of common stock of nStor Technologies Inc. expired at midnight on Friday, Sept. 2, because nStor stockholders had not validly withdrawn 155,094,600 shares of nStor common stock Xyratex said it intends to acquire the remaining shares of nStor through a short-form merger in which all remaining nStor stockholders will receive the same $0.105 per share in cash paid in the tender offer.
Brocade announces seminar series

LeftHand Networks announces $25M in Series C funding
