Dantz debuts free upgrade; XIOtech and Nishan unveils data replication solution; and RARESystems strikes deal with FalconStor.

Upgrade in Retrospect

Dantz Development Corp., Orinda, Calif., has debuted a free upgrade to the company's backup software. Retrospect Backup version 5.6, the latest upgrade is available as a free upgrade for owners of version 5.5. Retrospect Backup version 5.6 supports Microsoft Windows XP Professional and XP Home Edition. The new version also adds support for new storage devices. A free 30-day trial, with bootable CD disaster recovery capability, is available from the company's website.

IP two step

XIOtech Corp., Eden Prairie, Minn., a Seagate company, and IP Storage company Nishan Systems Inc., San Jose, Calif., unveiled a storage data replication solution using XIOtech's Magnitude SAN hardware platforms and Nishan IP Storage switches. XIOtech and Nishan will jointly sell the system, which enables customers to use IP network connections for remote data replication over virtually any distance. With this new capability, businesses can maintain a backup copy of their critical data at a location that is distant enough to survive, should an earthquake, flood or other disaster disable their primary data center, the companies said.

Dantz Development Corp., Orinda, Calif., has been invited to partner with the ASCII Group Inc., the world's largest community of independent computer resellers. This relationship makes Dantz the backup software vendor for The ASCII Group's nationwide network of resellers, the companies said. ASCII Group members now have access to Dantz's channel sales and technical support staff, while Dantz will enjoy exclusive marketing opportunities and preferred product placement with participating ASCII Group member companies. Dantz' backup software is expressly designed for medium sized businesses.

Rare storage

RARESystems Inc., Houston, has struck a deal with FalconStor Software Inc., Melville, NY, to integrate FalconStor's IPStor with RARE Systems DSM 6000 data storage module technology. RARE said the resulting network storage solution, StArNet 6000, will help IT contain storage management costs by consolidating and virtualizing storage equipment and offering the storage resources over IP/iSCSI and Fibre Channel. RARE said the StArNet 6000 can also deliver a suite of enterprise-class storage services including data mirroring, off-site replication, active-active failover and tape library support for serverless backup to facilitate business continuity.

On your Mark

Storage solutions provider Mark III Systems Inc., of Bellaire, Texas, has signed on as a solution provider for FalconStor Software Inc., Melville, NY. Mark III will leverage FalconStor's IPStor software to offer storage services such as capacity-on-demand, replication, mirroring, active-active failover, and zero-impact backup in addition to support, education, consulting, and systems integration services. Mark III Systems also provides on-site and off-site server and storage programs, creating custom storage packages, the company said.
